The Background Story

Martin Allen, son of Herbert Allen, a former crew member of "Affray" has worked tirelessly to set up a memorial fund with the purpose of establishing a memorial plaque dedicated to the final crew of "Affray" at the harbourside on the Channel Island of Alderney. On Monday 16th April, the 61st anniversary of the loss of "Affray", his vision became a reality ...

 

The event was attended by more than 200 guests, including close relatives, former submariners and local islanders.

A special thankyou to Martin Allen who organised the construction and dedication of the plaque and the visit to Hurd Deep. He is now planning the erection of a similar plaque in Portsmouth.
