Lieut. (E) M.C.Cole-Adams

“Michael Cole-Adams, ‘Coke’, was called up late 1944 and after basic training went to the RN Engineering College, Keyham & Manadon (early ’47 till late ’48). He went on to join HMS Swiftsure in the Far East till her return home in the summer 1950*, and started the submariners’ course later that year. He was a quiet man but had a great sense of humour.”

“Michael was not married. I am his younger sister, Jenifer, and was in the WRNS ( a Probationary SBA training in RN Hospital, Chatham) at the time. I had no idea Michael was in the Affray till a friend came into our quarters with a newspaper listing the ship’s company and said ‘This is your brother, isn’t it? ‘  The next days ... weeks ... were hell but I was helped having Navy people around me.”

(The photo is from the official ship’s company one – when Swiftsure decommissioned, I think.)
